Lacrimae Rerum 2012- Oil and metal leaf on canvas panel? 24 x 16″? This painting was commissioned for and given to The British Heart Foundation for a charity auction. The idea came from the quote;? ‘sunt lacrimae rerum et mentem mortalia tangunt’ translated by Feagles to ‘The world is a world of tears, and the burdens of mortality touch the heart’? It derives from Book I, line 462 of the Aeneid (c. 29?19 BC), by Roman poet Virgil.? I used this as a spring board for the idea of a woman lamenting the loss of her partner. She holds a heart shaped locket but inside there’s no photo, suggesting loss in general or ‘the tears of things’.? ? #britishheartfoundation? #rvpgallery#cattogallery#artist#art #painting#oilpainting#contemporaryart#contemporaryrealism #contemporarypainting#painter#Fineart #artgallery#artstudio#modernart#figurativeart#artconsultant#interiordesign#artcollectors
