Entropy studies x 4??
13 x 13″??
Oil and charcoal on Mylar??

I’d love to know which is one you prefer. I have my own favourite which I will explore further.??
??
First of four preparation studies for a new large painting. I drew up all four and worked on them all at the same time to see how they progressed and changed. Each one took on its own character, especially as I felt I could try things out on each one as I had four to play with.??
The germ of the idea is how we are all made from the same genetic pool of stuff and over time, life changes us and things become more apparent, more polarised as we get older. All babies cetainly resemble each other but we develop character over time.??
Recently my work has been focusing on the figure and processes of entropy – the slow disintegration, chance, ‘the bigness and smallness of things’, like sandstone being weathered by the elements. Each new piece has this in mind.? At points in the painting I destroy or breakdown what I have and slowly build it up again.??
